Uganda ‘’The Pearl of Africa’’ is blessed with an undeniable natural beauty. In the west, the Rwenzori peaks reach towards the sky, the perfect challenge for bold explorers. Across the nation, parks are home to some of the world’s most exotic animals: Silverbacks, lions and countless others. Uganda is home to Africa’s big5.

Winding roads lead to places of grand beauty and unique cultures for those who dare to explore.  There’s a story at every turn especially from our people, who are renowned for their warmth and charm.

One of the best Uganda safari tours 2024 and 2025 is a 10 days trip. A 10 days Uganda Safari is a great opportunity to explore some of the most diverse wildlife in Africa, spectacular scenery and memorable cultural experiences. A great vacation spot, off the beaten track, Uganda’s wildlife destinations including Murchison Falls, Kibale forest, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo national parks are perfect for an ideal African safari. A detailed package on how your safari can be is described in the article below.

Upon your arrival, our tour guide will welcome and brief you at the airport before transferring you to the Protea hotel for lunch. After lunch you can decide to have a city tour around Entebbe though its optional. You can also spend the whole of your evening relaxing. Later you can return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

On your second morning, you will be picked from your hotel and be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park with a mini stop at the equator for photographs. Upon arrival, have your lunch in any nearby restaurant and after go for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo and here expect to see some hippos, crocodiles and some water birds and later check in at your booked lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Optional lodges include Mpogo lodge(deluxe), Kigambira Safari lodge (luxury) where you can have your dinner and overnight stay.

You will begin your third morning with a game drive in search for zebras, elands, giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, topis among others and on your lucky day a leopard may cross your way. After the game drive and having your lunch done, you will later be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park arriving in the evening. Check in at Eco lodge or Mahogany Springs for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will have to go at the park headquarters for briefing about the guidelines to follow during gorilla trekking and here you will be allocated to a gorilla group to trek. In a group of 8 trekkers, you will be led by a game ranger in a company of several porters to a gorilla group specified on the permit earlier secured for you. Upon encountering the gorilla family, you will be allowed an hour to view and take photographs before returning to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Afternoon activities including a community walk and Batwa cultural experience (the forest people) may be organized for you. Dinner and overnight stay to be enjoyed at Eco lodge or Mahogany springs lodge.

On your fourth morning, you will be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park with an en route game viewing in Ishasha sector for the tree climbing lions.  Later proceed to Mweya Safari Lodge for check-in and lunch as you get ready for an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga channel. The banks of Kazinga Channel attract big numbers of mammals and birds. On the boat cruise expect to see big mammals such as hippos, elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks among others. Both migratory and savanna birds are quite in big numbers along this channel. After the boat cruise you can return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

After a morning cup of coffee, hit the Kasenyi track to catch up with early raisers including the cats as they return from the night hunt. Plenty of wildlife in this area may captivate you on this early morning game drive. On return you will transfer to Kibale National Park with en route visit to the crater lakes region of Ndali and Kasende.

You may reach in Kibale in the evening and you may opt to go for a nature walk in the Bigodi wetland for primate viewing such as mangabeys, grey checked monkeys, olive baboons, bush pigs, sitatungas, L’Hoest’s monkeys, vervet monkeys, mongooses, and bushbucks among others and bird watching. Later proceed to check in at Papaya Lake lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters at Kanyanchu for briefing about chimpanzee trekking before you proceed to the forest to trek man’s closest relative of all the apes. After trekking, return to the lodge for lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure as your waiting for dinner. You may also choose to go for a city tour in Kibale town but this you have to discus it with your driver.

After having breakfast, checking out and having your picnic lunch prepared, get ready for a long drive to Murchison Falls National Park via Masindi.  The distance from Kibale Forest to Murchison Falls national park can be about 4 to 5 hours as the murram road has over time been upgraded. The picturesque drive along the banks of Lake Albert offers beautiful and very scenic view of the Western Rift Valley. You may reach Murchison Falls National Park when your tired and you just check in at your booked lodge for refreshments and relaxation as your waiting for dinner. Optional lodges include Kabalega Wilderness lodge or Pakuba lodge (luxury) and Red Chillie lodge (budget).

The following day enjoy a morning game drive in the northern part of the park to catch a glimpse of some fascinating wildlife species. Expect to encounter lions, jackals, leopard if you are lucky and many other mammals including buffaloes, Jackson’s hartebeest, topi, elephants, giraffes among others. Return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon go for boat cruise up to the bottom of the mighty falls for sightseeing and a chance to see crocodiles, hippos and some bird species. Dinner and overnight at Kabalega Wilderness lodge or Pakuba lodge (luxury) or Red Chillie lodge (budget).

On your tenth day, after breakfast transfer back to Kampala with an en route visit to the top of the falls for sight-seeing. You may also have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola for Rhino trekking if it is part of your safari package.

Depending on return flight schedule, your tour guide/ driver will transfer you straight to Entebbe International Airport for an evening check-in flight and that will be the end of your 10 days Uganda safari tour.

How Much Does A Standard Car Rental Cost in Kampala?

by admin September 28, 2023
written by admin

A standard car rental is a larger sedan, which provides more room for passengers and can fit an additional bag in the trunk compared to an intermediate car. Standard rental cars usually fit about 4-5 people comfortably with some additional space for luggage. They get outstanding gas mileage and are easy for just about any traveler to handle.

A smaller car is probably a better idea if you’re not going to be driving much and simply want something to get you for shorter distances. It’s probably better for you in an urban environment, too – as its smaller size will be able to help you navigate the sometimes-tricky contours of your average city.

Toyota Rav4

Toyota Rav4 is small family size car that accommodates about 2-4 passengers. It is also a 4-wheel drive with four doors. Many people love to hire a Toyota Rav4 due to its interesting attributes like air conditioners, enough luggage space and comfortable seats. The Toyota Rav4 is known as one of the most affordable family size vehicles with little fuel consumption and it comes with comprehensive insurance. It goes for $45 per day.

Toyota Rav4 at $42per day

The Toyota Rav4 has great features with reliability and strong engine and, yes, it is a luxury compact sedan. Also, the features of the Rav4 are somewhat similar to another luxury sedan, Allion.

Mercedes Benz $100per day

The Mercedes Benz E Class is another model in the long line of luxury Mercedes Benz. Manufactured by Mercedes-Benz; German’s top car maker – the E Class Benz is built to turn heads with an eye-catching shiny exterior and a cool interior that features leather seats, an AC plus sun-roof. If you are planning a wedding, video shoot or any other special occasion and require an affordable luxury car for hire, then we recommend you hire a Mercedes Benz E Class. You can also hire the E Class for executive business road trips around cities or an airport transfer from or to Entebbe airport.

Toyota Hilux at $90per day is a series of on & off-road cab chassis & pick-up trucks manufactured by Toyota; Japan’s top car maker. The 4×4 station wagon can accommodate 5 people comfortably with AC, MP3/CD player and FM radio transmission plus of course the spacious space for cargo in the rear making it the ideal car for long distance road trips.

We have a fleet of well serviced Hilux trucks for hire in Uganda available for self-drive as well as guided road trips around the city, national parks or any other destination in Uganda. Whether you are in need of Hilux for business trip, safari or family visit in a remote destination, we can get it for you at affordable rates. It can also be used for weddings and introduction ceremonies given its shiny good looking exterior and interior.

Land Cruiser Prado

Toyota Prado is among the outstanding family size vehicles with impressive attributes. The car is designed to carry about 6 passengers. It features an air conditioning system, flexible seats with enough leg room space, enough cargo space, MP3, FM Radio station among others. Regardless of the nature of your safari, you won’t be disappointed with a Toyota Prado. We provide a wide range of Toyota Prado that includes Toyota TZ, TX, GX among others. We advise that you book in time and select your favourite. The Land cruiser with rooftop tent costs a price of $ 80 USD per day.

The Toyota Vitz is a subcompact hatchback manufactured by Toyota Motors from 1999 to 2019. The 3 or 5 doors Vitz is the perfect car for city tours, airport transfers & business trips. For as low as US$ 35 per day, you can get a Vitz for self-drive road trip and in case you require a driver, that can also be arranged. Its colourful exterior coupled with a cozy interior and small size makes it one of the easiest cars to drive in Uganda. The Vitz is a 2-wheel drive car and can’t handle rough terrain and long-distance overland road trips plus the space is minimal meaning you can hire the Vitz for camping adventures.

The Nissan Patrol at $80per day is 4-wheel drive vehicle manufacture by Nissan, another popular car maker in Japan available in 2 versions namely 3-door Short-wheelbase & 5-door Long-wheelbase with the latter offered in pick-up truck and cab versions. The Nissan patrol can handle tough terrain, muddy or steep slopes making it the perfect 4×4 car to hire in Uganda if you are planning to explore remote destinations including the national parks. The 4×4 wagon can accommodate up 5 people comfortably and has spacious space for cargo in the rear.

The Subaru Forester at $85per day is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Subaru; one of Japan’s top car makers. Subaru forester availability for sale started as late as 1997 in Japan and 1998 in USA though the crossover SUV was first introduced in November 1995 at the infamous Tokyo Motor Show. The Subaru forester is one of first hatchback station wagons but with higher ground clearance and an all-wheel drive mechanism perfect for all types of terrain. The Subaru forester can seat a maximum of 5 people and features an AC, MP3/CD/DVD player plus spacious cargo space as well leg room for passengers.

The Harrier at $60per day is a mid-sized car manufactured by Toyota; one of Japan’s leading automobile companies. It was first called the Lexus RX until 2013 when the name was rebranded to Harrier. This crossover SUV can accommodate up to 5 people with an extra fold seat in the rear, the cozy seats coupled with adequate legroom and air-conditioning makes the Harrier the perfect car for city tours, business road trips, couple getaway, family vacation as well as airport transfer and weddings.

Traveling Uganda: Here are 10 Helpful Uganda Travel Tips

by admin September 11, 2023
written by admin

Securing an e-visa is one of the primary steps when traveling to Uganda. You can apply for an e-visa through the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration at www.visas.immigration.go.ug/. This will cost you $50 plus $1.50 for processing fees, so it will be a total of $51.50. Other websites may charge you more, but its best you apply straight from the official website. The requirements include passport copy, recent passport-size picture, and yellow fever vaccination certificate.

Vaccinations are essential in Uganda travel. On arrival, you will be asked to present a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. This is in-lined with the Ugandan Ministry of Health’s requirements for travelers. It is also for your own protection. Make sure to ask medical advice from your doctor before traveling to Uganda.

This is because there are other risks of acquiring other diseases such as Hepatitis A and B, and Malaria. It is highly recommended to get shots for these diseases before flying to the country along with Polio, Typhoid, Cholera, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Rabies, and Meningitis.

Although Uganda is one of the most tourist-friendly destinations in Africa, you are advised to avoid going out at night, for your own safety especially outside major towns, especially near the South Sudan borders and Karamoja, too.

There are high risks of malaria in Uganda, but a proper precautionary measure can deal with this. If possible, have a vaccination for malaria or take malaria tablets that are prescribed by your medical practitioner at home. You can also avoid getting them by wearing appropriate clothes such as long sleeves and pants, especially during sunset hours, when mosquitos are the most active.

Put in consideration the best time to visit Uganda. You can enjoy the Uganda experience all year round. But if going there for safaris, the best months to visit the country is during the dry season which runs from June to August and December to February. The high season is from June to September.

During the wet season, March to May, weather can be a bit challenging as roads and nature trails can be in poor condition.

To support tourism and, at the same time preserve the wildlife, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has set fees for National Parks. The most famous destinations usually cost $40 per 24 hours. Meanwhile, less known places settle for a $35 fee, while small reserves, only $10.

There are additional fees for National Parks. You will be charged for park entrance and when you avail of some of the activities offered in the parks such as game drive, launch trip, nature walk, bird watching, ferry crossing, or chimp tracking.

Roads in Uganda have improved over the years, but there are still a lot of rocky areas that can be more challenging during wet seasons. You have to choose the proper 4×4 rooftop tent vehicle for the terrain when thinking of renting and that is a 4×4 vehicle. When driving, keep in mind that you have to be on the left side of the road. You do not want to cause any road trouble or violate traffic laws when visiting the place.

When traveling using a vehicle, make sure that you have enough supply of petrol. There are several gas stations along the road buy it is highly advisable to get extra just to make sure you will not run out of gas in deserted areas.

You have to make sure you are safe and having fun when traveling to Uganda. Here are some of the things you need to bring so that adventure is hassle-free: Important documents such as airline tickets, passport, visa, Vaccination certificates (Yellow fever certificate), Itinerary, Photocopy of documents if possible, Prescription medications, Malaria pills, Hand sanitizer, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Insect repellent, Eye drops, Skin and hair moisturizers, Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouth wash, Dusk mask, Anti – diarrhoea medicine, motion sickness tablets, Large zip lock bags (to secure your gadgets from getting wet), Small compass, Electrical adapters (Type G), Binoculars, Travel water bottle, Camera gear, Safari shirt, Safari pants, Safari boots, Travel towel, Clothes that are greens, or khakis to blend in.

Get as much of the Ugandan experience by getting there prepared. When you have everything, you need, from knowledge to basic travel needs, your adventure in Uganda will be stress-free. Moreover, you’ll be able to focus more on the rich terrain, wildlife, and the people.

If you are interested in gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, make sure you book for the permits in advance. These are the most demanding activities in Uganda so more tourists visit the country for that same cause meaning that for you to get the opportunity to go trekking in Uganda; you must book some moths before you visiting date.

Like in most travel destinations, tipping is normal in Uganda. It is a way of thanking people for their hard work and dedication. Usually, tourists give tips for their tourist guides in safaris, boat tours, game drive, or nature walk. For this, you can generally give $10 to $15. When you do this, make sure it is in Ugandan Shillings as they lack access to money exchangers.

You need to know the Ugandan currency when spending in smaller towns in Uganda. But for touristy places such as in the Uganda Wildlife Authority and other national parks, Cash Dollars, Euros, and Pounds are acceptable.

When exchanging your money for shillings, make sure they are the reasonable conversion. Some money exchangers are opportunists that they rip off tourists for their dollars or pounds. Be wise and do not fall for these schemes. Even at the airport, they have different rates so check it out. Similarly, they have a different exchange rate for big bills and small bills.

In case you have time to wander around Uganda, you’ll find a lot of shops; some even sell vibrantly colored souvenirs. Make sure you buy some as they are priced reasonably in almost all areas. But be careful when buying, especially if you think of bargaining.

Most items in proper shops in cities have fix prices, so negotiating is a bit rude. But in markets where price labels are missing, you can usually bargain. Just make sure that in the end, both you and the seller are happy with the negotiation.

Visit Kidepo – Exploring Uganda’s Isolated Park on Air

The most isolated of all national parks in Uganda is Kidepo Valley National Park which is located in Kaabong District, in the North-eastern part of the country, covering about 1,442 square kilometres. The park lies in the rugged, semi-arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with Sudan and Kenya at about 700km from Kampala, Uganda’s capital. Exploring Uganda’s Most Isolated National Park is a truly exciting adventure and you can go by land or air and it is interesting to start your Uganda safari from this park.

The permanent source of water in Kidepo Valley National Park is the Kanangorok hot spring, located in the northern part of Kidepo on the boundary with South Sudan. The two rivers of Kidepo and Narus form two valley systems whose floors lie between 3,000feet and 4,000feet.

To avoid the long journeys from Kampala to Kidepo, take a domestic flight from Entebbe and easily access this remote park. These flights are arranged in advance to avoid inconvenience.  The park is home to over eighty animal species, some of which do not exist in any other Uganda national park. Some of the rare animal species found in Kidepo include; cheetah, bat-eared fox, hunting dogs, striped hyena, roan antelopes, klipspringer, Beisa oryx among others. Other animal species in Kidepo Valley National Park include; lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, elands, bush duskier, elephants, bush pigs, bohor reed buck, Rothschild giraffes, Defassa water bucks, warthogs, oribi, Burchell’s zebras, Jackson’s hartebeests among many others.

Kidepo Valley National Park is home to over 460 species of birds, notable among which are the ostrich and the Kori bustard. Some of the bird species in Kidepo include; the Egyptian vulture, the pygmy falcon, varreaux’s eagle, Abyssinian ground hornbill, yellow-billed hornbill among many others.

Indulge the culture of Kidepo people. The Ik are one of the most reclusive tribes in Uganda and still live in a very high traditional manner. They live on top of the Morungole Mountain in seclusion.

A visit to the Ik tribes takes about 12-hour round which includes hikes. They are hospitable and prior bookings to visit them are made.

The Ketebo people who currently live in Torit in South Sudan also known as the Mening people while in Uganda are the inhabitants’ farmers and hunters of Kidepo Valley National Park and they lived in this area since 1800. The Katebo people are the sub tribe of Lango people in Uganda who are mostly referred to as the “Bira” people by the Europeans and also the Didinga call them the “Loceha/Loceka”. In 1958, it was made as the game reserves by the British administration so that to protect the animals from being hunted and further clearing of the bush in order to control the tsetse flies. The process evicted the residents who migrated to other areas like the Katebo people relocated to places of Bira like Napotpot, Kalo Kudo, Namosingo, Loriwo and Naurkori in South Sudan.

Take early morning game drives starting at 6:00 am; evening at around 4:00pm depending on how you have organized with the guide and lastly the night game drives starting at 7:00pm. Early morning game drives makes visitors catch the sun rise behind the mountain before flooding the valley then off for the whole day game drive to the ostrich farm and  it is not any man made occurrence, but given the massive number of the birds one would compare it to this along, then we shall be able to view herds of elephants, cape buffalos, giraffes, lions, Cheetah, Leopards, Hyenas waterbucks, bat-eared fox,  Bohor reedbuck, Oribi , aardwolf, dik-dik, caracal and then the hot springs at kanangorok. Use 4×4-wheel drive Safari Land cruiser.

The game drives are commonly done at Narus valley and Kidepo valley. So, at Narus valley, wildlife is most active very early in the morning (6:00am) and evening times (4:00pm). Kidepo Valley is short on big game but massive on scenery and the drive to Kanangorok Hot Springs passes some magnificent landscapes.

Kidepo offers breath-taking open savannah which is surrounded by spectacular mountain landscape nowhere to be seen in Africa! Kidepo Valley National Park is Uganda’s second biggest National Park and one of the Africa’s finest wilderness areas.

What is Uganda’s Best road trip adventure?

With so many spectacular game reserves to choose from, determining the ultimate once-in-a-lifetime African safari experience is no easy task for travelers. On May 29th, 2022, I visited Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and I booked my trip with 4×4 Car Hire Uganda. By that time I had been in Uganda for three weeks, spending most of my time around Kabale and Lake Bunyonyi – a lake suitable named after a ‘place of many little birds’.

Suitable, because the most colorful and cheeky little birds I’ve ever seen gladly helped me finish my fruit-breakfast in the morning, when I stayed at the lake. But I could not withstand the temptation to visit Bwindi Forest – I wanted to see the gorillas with my own eyes! Even though the entrance price to the park was steep at the time, $700,- I decided that my chances of seeing these wonderful animals might be very slim if didn’t take this opportunity. What are the odds of me going to Uganda again, when there is an entire world to explore? So why not see everything I want to see, while I can?

While in Kabale, I had made a few friends, and one of them helped me get a permit. If you want to avoid tour operators, getting a permit can be difficult if you’re on a schedule. Only a few people a day are allowed to track the gorillas, so it could be a couple of days before you can get one. Since I was in Uganda for a month, I had that luxury, but if you’re visiting for a short period of time or if you have planned your entire trip, better be safe than sorry and use a tour operator.

We left late, and after it had started to rain, we found the roads be very muddy. But my 4×4 Land Cruiser did help, but I was so excited, We found a place to stay and sleep and had a late dinner – goat meat was all that was available, but it tasted great – even for a vegetarian 😉

The next morning I went to the UWA meeting place and heard some stories about what it was like. The gorillas move around a lot, so trackers are sent out to find them, before the tracking groups are sent on their way. The day before, the gorillas had stayed close to the camp area, and the group had found the gorillas within the hour. You’re allowed to stay a maximum of one hour with the group, so as not to upset them, meaning this group had come back early.

No such ‘luck’ for me, I am happy to say. We got word where the gorillas were, and our group was taken by car to the edge of the forest, where the trackers met us. The gorillas had moved on, so the tracking became a long, long hike – our entire trip, start to finish, took 7 hours, although that includes the drive and an hour with the gorillas. Yes, we did find them, after several hours following gorilla droppings, navigating narrow paths and steep climbs.

Not everyone in our group was prepared for this, unfortunately. An elderly man had come with his daughters to ‘see the waterfalls’, but since that excursion was full, they had opted for the gorilla tracking. On sneakers. Not a great idea, especially since the man himself was not really fit enough for the climbs – the guides had to help him up and down every hill, sometimes one person pushing, the other pulling.

To his credit – he never complained once, unlike his daughters, who were ready to go back after an hour or so, and eventually even demanded to be taken back – which was not an option. The lesson here: come prepared. Dress for the occasion, and do not try this if you are not up for a (very) long hike & climb on slippery forest trails and hills. This is not an exaggeration – holding on to tall grass to not slide down a hill was part of the journey. And on this day, the gorilla’s had quickly moved out of the forest, so we did not go very deep into it, (unfortunately).

But do not let this scare you off, either: that hill was the last one between us and the gorilla’s, and we could see them from afar. We had come out of the forest, as the gorillas had moved to the banana plantation to feast on the leaves of the banana trees, after climbing down that hill, crossing a stream, we went up the next hill to the group of gorilla’s (the H-group). We were told be as quiet as possible, no shouting, no wild gesturing or anything of the kind, and of course, we paid attention.

We walked up a trail that brought us about 30 meters or so above the group, a great vantage point for quiet observation. Or so we thought. Part of the group of gorillas was actually a bit further up the hill than we were, putting us basically in the middle. We heard some huffing and grunting from behind the bushes, and after moving about a bit (carefully) I spotted one gorilla lying on his belly, staring at us. He seemed content enough to stay there though. Unlike the gorilla that suddenly broke out of the bushes and make a mock charge at our group, me being nearest.

It was a female, with a baby on her back, which was no doubt the reason for her anger. Of course I instinctively backed away a couple of paces, even though she only took a step or two in my direction, I still think she was close enough to touch had I stayed where I was. She quickly moved down the hill to the rest of the group, and after calming down, we settled in for our hour of watching. The silverback, the leader of the group, was down there, climbing a tree to rip off leaves, then climbing down again with his massive, massive body to sit down and eat.

A couple of meters before him, two very young gorilla’s played on a log of wood, climbing, falling down, having fun, and the baby gorilla on the mother’s back that had just passed us, was groping at leaves as his mom moved about. I just sat there, taking pictures, and sometimes just quietly contemplating life in general and the beauty of what I saw around me.

Since we were already almost out of the forest, the trip back was fairly easy. The cars picked us up and brought us back, and it was all over…

I recommend 4×4 Car Hire for one of the self-drive safaris in Uganda.

Are you taking a road trip to Uganda? Kidepo is one place you would not love to miss visiting if really your priority in Uganda is to have an extraordinary vacation. Kidepo Valley National Park is a very popular and the most recommended national park to go to if you are a true wildlife lover – nature lover. Kidepo is in fact far ahead from being just a wildlife sanctuary but its aesthetically pleasing landscape and the various bird species are among the other things that make the Park an extraordinary one.

However, like any other Park, Kidepo is more exhilarating in the dry season when the animals are congregated near the water points contrary to the rainy season where animals disseminate from the valleys moving to higher and drier grounds where viewing them may become a hurdle. Nevertheless, there are various reasons as to why you should drive northeast wards to visit the spectacular Kidepo and below are some of them:

Its wildlife and nature

Kidepo Valley National Park is located in the northeastern parts of Uganda and it is known for its varied wildlife, and the eye-catching landscape. A trip to Kidepo is surely a discovery one as you will explore a variety of amazing things such as; the bird life, wildlife, impressive culture, fantastic climate, and not forgetting the magnificent view of the entire Park – hence being an ideal spot for great photographers.

Wildlife viewing in Kidepo is a classy one if you are that traveler who would like to see almost every African wildlife species protected in one specific place. Kidepo protects more wildlife species than any other protected area in Uganda and among these include; African Lions, African Elephants, African Leopards, Cape Buffaloes, Cheetahs, Giraffes, Hippos, Nile Crocodiles, Zebras, Jackson’s Hartebeests, Oribi, Impalas, Uganda Kob, Elands, Klipspringers, African Wild Dog, Jackals, Bat-eared Foxes, and many others. On the side of bird life, Kidepo protects more bird species in Uganda (500 bird species) only behind Queen Elizabeth National Park which has 600-plus bird species.

The amazing culture

The well-known cattle keepers, Karamojong, are the most popular tribe in northeastern Uganda and around the boundaries of Kidepo Valley National Park. For the travelers to Kidepo you are guaranteed with amazing cultural experiences once you immerse yourself in the Karamojong culture. According to the Karamojong culture, for a young Karamojong man to be counted as a true matured man and for him to marry a Karamojong woman should first wrestle the woman he desires to marry – this is a must-done ritual to every Karamojong man.

When he comes out victorious from the wrestling match against the woman, he is now considered to be a man and is qualified to marry the woman. This is a gesture showing that the man will be strong enough to give protection to his wife and the entire family. After a successful match, the dowry negotiations are allowed to commence.

In an instance where the young man is unable to defeat the woman in the wrestling match, he will not be considered by his people to be a man and will often leave to marry a woman from a different people-group where a test of strength is not required. Even when a non – Karamojong man wishes to marry a Karamojong woman, he is also subjected to go through this ritual too.

Good accommodations in Kidepo

As you enjoy the extra ordinariness of Kidepo Valley National Park, you will be very pleased to also sleep comfortably at night and also taste the good organic foods of Uganda in the well-equipped restaurants. Some of the best accommodations to enjoy your stay in Kidepo include: Kidepo Savannah Lodge, Apoka Safari Lodge, Nga’moru Wilderness Camp, and Apoka Rest Camp, among others, but all in all you are advised to consider advance booking.
